Connections Reloaded - Fatal Error: Call to Undefined Function

I'm brand new to both WordPress and blogs in general. I have HTML experience but no PHP skills.  I installed WordPress 2.2.2 via my HostGator hosting Control Panel, and everything appeared to work fine with the Default theme. WordPress displayed properly, and I was able to create and edit posts, upload images, change title, etc. The url is http://www.saintpaulsumc.com/wordpress/

I downloaded Connections Reloaded 3.0.2, unzipped it, uploaded the files to the Themes directory, and selected this theme from my WordPress dashboard. The new theme begins to load on my blog page, but is interrupted by the following error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function the_tags() in /home/umcwhit/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/connections-reloaded/post.php on line 23

I tried uninstallling WordPress and repeated the complete process, resulting again in the same error message. Threre's a real good chance it's operator error, but I'm not sure what to do to fix it. I love the theme's layout and would really like to use it. All feedback and suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks.

WordPress 2.2.2 is an ancient version of WordPress!

Please download and install 2.8.6 from http://wordpress.org/download/

Thanks for your feedback. I was beginning to suspect that to be the problem. I was actually making some progress thru the "Google and tweak" process, but fixing one error msg just led to another. My host provides 1-step install but obviously the scripts are old. I'll see if they permit customer script updates. Thanks again.

That shouldn't be a problem. You'll just need to install it yourself manually.

Thanks again. The theme is working great with the new version. I've got one more question, but it's unrelated to this thread, so I started a new thread. Love your themes and thanks for your help getting started.
